Algarve
Daily Ramble
I’ll be brief today. I’m sitting in the Algarve, the south of Portugal, as I type these words. The tobacco treatment I posted on Friday has become a lived experience for me as I participate in an Amazonian medicine retreat. The wonders of tobacco being used in a ritualistic way continue to inspire and amaze me.
But what I want to talk about is how much I enjoy the people who show up to participate in these types of retreats. Our group consists of French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Swedish individuals. When we speak together as a group, two translators are used to capture the four languages: English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish. As an American ex-pat, having the pleasure of company spanning such a rich cultural heritage is incredible. I can get by in Portuguese and a tad of Spanish, but I'm checked out when it comes to French. Somehow, everyone seems to know enough of each language that communication happens. Remarkable.
Historically, the Algarve is a great place for international gatherings to occur. Not far from our retreat center are salt mines. You can soak in the warm salt waters that are slowing drying to curate more salt. It’s much tastier than your typical table salt. Amazingly, these are the same salt mines that curated salt for payment to Roman soldiers during the times of Julius Ceasar. The word salary comes from the Latin root word sal, or salt. Salt was not easy to come by in those times. Today, the Algarve is best known as a vacation place for English, German, and other European nationals looking to warm their bones during the cold winter month of the European north.
The Algarve has been a great place to spend a few days recharging in nature, working with Amazonian medicine, and learning how much I don’t know about the world. Tomorrow, I’ll be back with more insights, but for now, the retreat beckons.
Awe-Inspiring Things on the Interweb
Bitcoin Price Prediction
Weekend: $28k - $34.5k
Today: $30k - $34.6k
Tomorrow: $30k - $34.2k
The price of Bitcoin pushed up to $34.6k over the weekend and into the early part of today. But it stalled today and has since sold off, dropping 3%. It may not be much, but as I suspected, each push in price is being sold into. If $32k fails to support the current pullback, then $30k is on the table. On the other hand, if $34.6k can be broken, we could see a push in higher numbers. The long and short: consolidation continues. I anticipated we’d see it resolve last week, but it looks like it may take this week to resolve.
Bitcoin Q & A
Q: Is Bitcoin tangible?
A: Is a wave tangible?
A question with a question is terrible to call Q&A, but asking if a wave is tangible makes sense. Let me explain. When a wave propagates across the ocean, it does not move water. What a wave represents is a movement of energy through water. Although the wave can be seen, making it tangible, the invisible energy actually causing the wave to move is invisible. Bitcoin comes into existence through energy consumption, meaning each unit of Bitcoin represents an amount of energy. Although it lives in the digital realm, it’s fair to say each Bitcoin is as tangible as a wave.
