Daily Ramble
My belly has swollen in pleasant delight as my little family of three consumes way too much of the deliciousness the Bandon area has on offer during the fall season. I won’t list the natural delights to avoid spurning the envious eye, but suffice it to say, the smell of an apple pie baking downstairs is taxing my concentration.
The best part about being back on our family farm is watching Naia, our 3-year-old, devouring the farm life and her relationships with her grandparents. In her mouth, grandpa is pagump, and grandma is grammy. If she’s a stone throw from either from the time her little eyes pop open until she collapses in exhaustion, Ana and I hear “Where’s pagump? Where’s grammy?” on repeat. That’s closely followed by “Whatcha doing grammy/pagump?”
Two years has been far too long since seeing family and friends back in Oregon, but it’s tough to complain about, considering how well we’re weathering the insipid covidiocy. It was a bitter pill to swallow that the family reunion we flew in for was canceled out of the fears of covid spread amongst our greater family. I don’t know if anyone else is discovering this, but the vaccinated folks seem to continue to have the most fear of covid. I’m not certain, but I suspect most of the cancelations at our family reunion were from the vaccinated contingent within our family. Aren’t those vaccinated supposed to be the safest and least at risk? The cancelation seemed to have little to do with health and more to do with fears of being socially ostracized or forced to quarantine children at home. Fair enough.
The oddest difference I find between the COVID camps in the US and Portugal is the political nature of things. Somehow the fight between team red and team blue in the US has expanded to include anti-COVID vax in team red and pro-COVID vax in team blue. I’ve mentioned to more than a few people that all the people I know in Portugal who are unvaxxed are liberal. I can see people’s mental gears grinding when I say that. Their eyes give away their thoughts: “liberals” who don’t want COVID vaccines and think it should be a personal choice — how can that be?! Furtive skyward glances follow — looking for flying pigs, I assume.
But the saddest part about the difference between the US and Portugal is the abject fear I see in people’s eyes. Since I cannot find any data suggesting wearing a mask while being healthy has any impact on the spread of COVID, I’ve stopped masking up unless asked. The fear in people’s eyes as I see them othering me into a subhuman category is enough to make me want to hug them and tell them they’re safe. But I don’t because, unfortunately, frightened and cornered animals are the most dangerous kind of animals.
Shocking Things on the Interwebs
The Three Rivers Gorge in China is reaching capacity, and the devastation it would wreak on the downstream population would likely lead to the biggest manmade catastrophe in human history. So send those people good vibes!
Bitcoin Price Prediction
Weekend: $46.5k - $51.6k
Today: $51k - $53.2k
Tomorrow: $51.7k - $55k
I had a bit of concern that we’d see the price of Bitcoin decline after Friday and Saturday’s consolidation just above $49.3k, but the bulls turned up the juice on Sunday, pushing the price to close over $51.6k, which was the next resistance. Now, there’s little resistance until $56k. That’s the bull case. On the bear side, which I see as less likely, we are starting to see increased funding rates, which suggests the bulls are getting very confident. In a high leverage market like Bitcoin, when either bulls or bears are offsides, it can lead to cascading liquidations and fast price movements. All in all, even if that were to occur, it would still likely happen at a higher price than here. Bottom-line: the $29k bottom is in, and we’re well on our way to challenging the previous all-time high at $64k.
