Round 3
The best part about getting older is knowing myself. Just knowing my likes, dislikes, strengths, and weakness — the basics, really. At 20 I thought I knew myself but at 40, I can see most of what I thought came from other people. I suppose I’ll say the same at 60. Which, all in all, just gives me a deeper appreciation for my elders.
This is a roundabout way of saying that I like thinking about ideas and how they apply to the future. My wife complains that I live in the future too often. I complain she thinks too little of the future. We pick the partners that balance us, am I right?
Looking back at my life, I’ve frequently been accurate on where the future is going, but have just as frequently shot myself in the foot instead of capitalizing on it. Some examples: getting a computer engineering degree in 2003 but not using it. Going into the solar electric industry in 2005 but leaving in 2012. Investing in Bitcoin in 2015 but not holding on to it. At 40, I’m ready to end that shit and grab hold of these future trends until I see my bank account grow.
Which plainly leads me to the now trending psychedelic movement. I’m an Oregonian living in Portugal and I met my wife at an ayahuasca retreat center in the Amazon. The arc of history is bending back towards psychedelics (thankfully) after a couple of generations of demonizing them. Oregon just decriminalized most drugs this year following Portugal’s lead. To say that I’m sitting in the bull’s eye of the re-emerging psychedelic trend is a bit like wondering if the Pope is Catholic. Duh.
How do I capitalize on this fact? Damned if I know, but I’m hoping by writing these words and leveraging my US and Portuguese connections, I can contribute to moving the awareness forward. There are too few of us that realize how these lovely plants our creator put on the planet, when used in the proper set, setting, and administered by a properly educated healer, can harmonize us individually and collectively. It’s what they did for thousands of years until we crawled up in our heads and bolted the door out of the mistaken belief that we are our thoughts. We’re not. Jimi Hendrix was right in asking: Are you experienced?
Favorite Thing on the Interwebs Today
This image brought up all sorts of sweet nostalgia for my redneck roots in the countryside of Oregon and days tromping around the Playa at Burning Man. And if you’ve got none-that in your repertoire, it’s never too late to be a good Boy Scout and get your Mad Max preparation game on. Sweet cornbread is right.
Bitcoin
On the price front, today's price looks to be taking a breather. Yesterday’s trading stayed within the $17.2k - $18.5k range. I expect much the same today, with more chance that we stretch into the mid $16k’s than the $18k’s. This is exactly the type of action that I was hoping for so we could recharge before breaking through the all-time high of $20k. A few days of ranging will help that cause.
Bitcoin bitcoin bitcoin. Boo! We’re well past Halloween, but I can't tell you how many people have been shocked to see the price at these levels. I haven’t been. This is not out of some smug “self-righteous holier than thou” Bitcoin belief, but because I’ve spent years understanding “what is money?” and how Bitcoin fits the glove perfectly. Sounds simple, but I truly dare you to start down that trailhead. It’ll flip a lot of your belief system upside down. I came across this quote from Robert Breedlove, a premier thinker in the space, who distills a profound bit of monetary wisdom:
It’s safe to say I’m in the minority on having walked the “what is money?” path or the price of Bitcoin would be much higher. For those that haven’t, the rocket ship is launching and it’s going to leave your jaw on the floor when it lifts off. Grab some Bitcoin if you haven’t and hold on to your seat — you’re about to see humanity BEGIN to re-organize itself around Bitcoin. Yeah, I’m that louco na cabeça.

Or
I don’t really care. I’m just going to keep writing thoughts into the void and see what happens.
